Guide to Writing Technical Formal Reports

A Note To The Reader:

This site is designed to provide a student with a general framework for writing technical formal reports. The Guide presented here is a commonly used, widely accepted format, but please keep in mind that there are various acceptable formats. This Guide will not only provide a starting point for students but also, create a consistent format among the Laboratory Project courses within the Department.

The following sections are written in the order they are to appear in a formal technical report:

• Technical Memorandum (not required for CHEE 218)
• Title Page
• Abstract
• Table of Contents, List of Figures, List of Tables
• Introduction
• Experimental
• Results and Discussion
• Conclusions/Recommendations
• References
