Research Interests

Research in the Baker lab focuses on the design of electrochemical methods for transformation of renewable materials into value-added products. In particular, we are interested in converting biomass-derived feedstocks to fuels, polymer precursors, agrochemicals or pharmaceuticals using paired electrolysis reactions. Members of our research program dive deep into the reaction mechanisms and kinetics of paired processes, and use this information to guide process improvements or the development of new reactivity. Ultimately, we aim to decrease the reliance of the chemical industry on fossil fuels through the design of electrolysis reactions that are practical to implement on an industrial scale.
